This Lifting Shui Ping (水平提梁) teapot, crafted from premium Lvni clay, is one of the classic Yixing shapes for Gongfu tea brewing. Originally designed to remain balanced while floating in hot water, it features gold accents on the lid, knob, and spout edges. A curved lifting handle completes the form, combining function with graceful design.

Tale of the "Lost Treasure" - Shuimo Craftsmanship

The technique of water-polishing has existed in China for thousands of years, but its application to Yixing teapots did not appear until the Daoguang period of the Qing Dynasty (1820 to 1850). According to historical accounts, after Yixing teapots were exported to Siam (present-day Thailand), the locals regarded Zisha ware as equivalent to jewelry. As a result, they began to polish the teapots using abrasive stones to uniformly smooth out the rough surface, creating a glossy, mirror-like finish similar to glass. Additionally, the rims, lid knobs, and edges were often adorned with gold, silver, or copper, giving the teapots a jewel-like appearance. This refined aesthetic quickly gained favor among the Thai royal family and wealthy merchants, who eagerly collected them.
