The Rain Hat (玉笠) teapot, made from Da Hong Pao clay, the finest of all Zhuni clays, features a rounded body with a spout resembling a fisherman’s rod and a lid shaped like his hat. It uses the 'Zisha Paving' technique, where crushed fired clay is applied to the surface of the unfired teapot and pressed in. After firing, the teapot displays a textured surface with contrasting speckles, adding a visually striking effect.

Art of Zisha Paving

Zisha sand-paving is a technique where sand particles of different clay colors are applied to the surface of a semi-moist teapot body using methods like spreading, dotting, or sprinkling. Tools are then used to embed the sand into the surface layer. This process primarily serves as decorative embellishment, creating a striking contrast between the sand particles and the clay body after firing. The golden Duanni accents embedded on the bright red Da Hong Pao Zhuni body of this teapot add an extra layer of vitality and charm to its design.
