Lifting Palace Lantern Yixing Teapot
The Starlight Collection has long been the highlight of our curated Yixing teapot offerings, pun intended. Each teapot is finished using the Water-Polish (Shuimo) technique, a traditional craft dating back to the late Qing Dynasty in the 1800s. Featuring small-sized Yixing teapots, the collection offers designs that are both delightful and collectible, perfect companions for solo tea sessions.
This Palace Lantern (宮燈提梁) teapot has a rounded and full-bodied form, inspired by traditional palace lanterns. The surface is fully water-polished, resulting in a smooth, glossy finish with a soft, glass-like sheen. The lid, knob, and spout edges are trimmed with gold accents. A curved lifting handle is attached, both functional and aesthetically pleasing.
The design of palace lanterns originated during the Yongzheng period of the Qing Dynasty. The prototype was a lantern crafted by an elder from Tuntou Village, which was later presented to the imperial palace by a local official. This Tuntou lantern was designated as a tribute and named 'Gong Lantern,' symbolizing the grandeur of the imperial court. Over time, the character 'gong' (供) was replaced with 'gong' (宫), giving rise to the term 'Palace Lantern' as it is known today.
