Fang Gu Yixing Teapot
Crafted from one of the rarest premium Zini (紫泥) clays from Huanglong Mountain, known as Hong Pi Long, the Fang Gu (仿古) teapot originates from the ancient battlefield drum, an instrument used to boost morale during battles. The phrase 'beating the drum to rally the troops and striking the gong to signal retreat' refers to its use. The name 'Fang Gu' (仿古) likely means 'imitating the drum.'
The Fang Gu teapot is one of the classic Yixing teapot shapes, with an elongated oval contour and a lid that extends slightly beyond the body’s outline. The teapot body is full and slightly bulging, giving a sense of expansion. The lid and body fit seamlessly, with the edges of the lid and mouth perfectly aligned, resembling tightly closed lips.
The decoration showcases embedded Zisha painting, a demanding and intricate technique. Grooves are carefully carved into the teapot, filled with contrasting original ore Zisha clay, and polished to complete the design. The pattern features a charming cat with the heart of a tiger.
